Experience french hospitality in the Nilgiris
Benoit first saw the Nilgiris in the seventies, and like many who come to these hills, he never found a reason to leave. By the time he and his partner, Monu, took over the property in Kotagiri, the 1888 Scottish bungalow was crumbling, holding onto decades of memories from its colonial past and the local Tamil family who lived here in the nineties. Benoit spent years restoring the home by hand, infusing it with his own French heritage, while Monu used her background as a nutritionist to ground the space with a deep, nourishing sense of care.
Today, walking into La Maison feels less like arriving at a destination and more like stepping into a life beautifully lived. The house opens up to vibrant gardens where geese, turkeys, rabbits, and friendly dogs roam freely, making you feel like a guest in a living, breathing sanctuary. There is an easy flow to the days here, you might find yourself walking the tea trails with Benoit as he shares old local stories, or sitting down to a meal thoughtfully guided by Monu's philosophy on well-being. It is a place offering a rare, authentic warmth and a fusion that makes you think you’re awarded the ecstasy of time.
Tucked into the rolling hills of Kotagiri, La Maison offers a heritage homestay experience in a restored colonial bungalow where every corner evokes warmth, tranquility, and character. The décor blends old-world charm — antique wood furniture, vintage accents, verandahs — with the comforts expected by modern travellers.
Named after the morning light it receives, this room is the most spacious of all, with large windows opening to the hills and tea gardens. Warm rose-toned accents, classic furniture, and soft lighting create a welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for families or couples with a young child who want room to relax in comfort and charm.
