In the quiet hill village of Thanedhar, surrounded by tall deodar trees and ancient apple orchards, stands Grandma Stokes B&B, a home deeply tied to the region’s history. The house once belonged to Satyanand Stokes, the man who first introduced apple cultivation to this part of Himachal, and today, his great-grandson Vinay and his wife Veena live here, continuing the legacy of the family home. Fifteen years ago, they opened their doors to travelers, welcoming guests into spaces designed to slow down. Some rooms look out to the River Sutlej, while others face snow-covered Himalayan peaks, with a wide, sun-drenched deck perfect for soaking in the mountain views. The home is lovingly looked after by Chameli, Sanju, and Suman, while Matru and Tiklu the cats and Taffy the ever-friendly dog make sure every guest quickly feels like family.
Days here adapt effortlessly to the gentle rhythm of life in the hills. You can spend your mornings on unhurried orchard walks, wandering beneath branches heavy with blossoms or fruit, learning firsthand how this landscape was transformed. Beyond the estate, the day's pace is set by nature and wildlife excursions into the nearby forests, where quiet trails reveal the hidden, wilder side of the Himalayan foothills. Whether you choose to explore the surrounding wilderness or simply retreat to the estate, the property offers a rare solitude that allows you to slip out of the rush of everyday life and connect deeply with the stories embedded in the land.
Room Overview:
Grandma Stokes has six rooms, all within the main house. Two rooms on the lower floor open to a wide terrace. Upstairs, one room faces the village road, while three overlook the valley.
Opening directly onto the huge terrace with the views, these are double bedded comfortable rooms with a lot of personal memorabilia from the family. Individual dining area on this floor.

These have a separate staircase leading to a floor up from the lobby floor. One room has a view of the valley while the other has a view of the village road. Individual dining area on this floor, indoor activity space and a lounge room.

These rooms with an amazing view of the Sutlej and the Beas valleys have a common bathroom and are ideal for a family of 4. One room is also given with the exclusive access to the toilet after which Vinay does not allot the second room.

Price Description: The price is for Double Occupancy and includes all taxes and accommodation with the following meals.
Meals: Breakfast (✓), Lunch (₹) & Dinner (✓)
Raahghar Payment Terms: Reservation is confirmed with an advance payment of 50% of the total amount at the time of booking. The balance payment is to be made 7 days prior to check-in.
Cancellation Policy (Indian Passport Holders Only):
In case of a cancellation due to any unforeseen circumstance a credit note will be issued by the property to the guest for the amount paid till date.
The credit note will be valid for use within one year from the period of booking. The guest can redeem the credit note against the amount of any future booking within a year and pay the balance if any as per the rates applicable on that date. This credit note is also transferable and can be used by the guest/transferee only once within the stipulated date.

Shimla in reality but getting a flight might prove a futile effort. You can fly into Chandigarh, the real closest airport.
The nearest railway station is Shimla. It is connected by a heritage train from Kalka which takes approximately 6 hours to reach Shimla.

The food served on the property is very homely and always accompanied by wholesome portions of fruits.
