Above the Valley in the clouds
Sangay and Rinzi both worked in their individual jobs till 2017. In Bhutan, almost every family has someone who has worked in tourism. Sangay spent 30 years of his life in tourism and Rinzi was a health worker until they decided to retire to this lovely mountain retreat in Punakha. The sound of the river can be heard in the quiet of the evening as both of them entertain the guests with stories of how ‘The Dhumra’ came into existence. The food served during dinner is made using local ingredients only. The breakfast however is the highlight of the meals, which on a clear day is served on the platform overlooking the Punakha valley. The view of the Punakha Dzong as the night comes in is something to just be with till the dinner bells ring. The warm hosts and an all-women team will leave you with an impression of Bhutan, which lives up to its reputation of being the happiest country in Asia.
